In March 2024, Guardian Glass and the VELUX Group entered a joint development agreement concerning tempered vacuum insulated glass (VIG). This agreement will allow Guardian and VELUX to develop manufacturing processes and capabilities together.
VIG employs a sophisticated design featuring two glass panes separated by a narrow, vacuum-sealed cavity. This vacuum effectively minimizes convective and conductive heat transfer between the interior and exterior of a building. By significantly reducing thermal conductivity, VIG enhances the overall insulation performance of windows, contributing to improved energy efficiency and thermal comfort within a structure. Tempered VIG has advanced insulating capabilities compared to standard insulated glass, and to non-tempered VIG.

Comparing conventional glass applications under similar temperature conditions with its data acquisition system, SABIC Home of Innovation™ estimates that the Guardian SunGuard™ SuperNeutral™ 30T glass reduces the home's air conditioning use by approximately 8% over the course of a week.
