How and where glass is used
How glass is made and what it offers
The 75,000 square metres façade features a curtain wall that is double glazed to allow for a high solar protection on neutral-looking glass.
The new-build façades are predominately brick-faced, with punched windows to reflect the surrounding context.
Curved glass, punch windows and precast stone panels make up the envelope on a figure-of-eight footprint.

Designed by DROO Architects, Castle Lane is a development of luxury apartments and townhouses located in the Birdcage Walk Conservation Area of Westminster in London.
A standout feature of the residential buildings is the large, curved windows with fixed glass panes that protrude from the façade of the buildings. The floor of each apartment extends out to meet the curved glass, allowing residents to overlook the streets below and enjoy views of the surrounding city. By installing frameless glass railings within the aluminium casement door systems, occupants are not only provided with a protective barrier when the door is open, but also uninterrupted views of the surrounding area.
The glass chosen for the windows is Guardian SunGuard® SuperNeutral (SN) 70/41 coated solar control glass. As a neutral, high selectivity glass product, SunGuard SN 70/41 offers advanced solar control and thermal insulation, while allowing good transmission of natural daylight. With a low g value of 41% and a light transmission of 70%, SN 70/41 provides the desired balance between solar control, light transmission and thermal insulation, while helping to keep the building’s occupants comfortable at all times.
