Description of the project

Designed by Fabrizio Capolei, Maximo is a visually striking 65,000 square meter shopping center located in the south-east of Rome. The three-level building houses shops, restaurants, and entertainment businesses. The design focus was on providing plenty of natural daylight into interior spaces by using large windows and roof glazing. The building has a Very Good BREEAM rating.

Guardian SunGuard™ SuperNeutral (SN) 70/37 coated solar control glass was chosen for the building’s glazed façade. SN 70/37 offers uniformity of color and an excellent ratio between solar control and light transmission. The glass helps minimize the need for artificial light and offers excellent solar control properties, combined with outstanding thermal insulation. The glass also has a beautiful, neutral, transparent appearance with low reflection and consistent color.

Guardian SunGuard™ SuperNeutral (SN) 40/23 was chosen for the roof glazing. SN 40/23 offers a very low solar factor of 23% which helps limit the overheating of the inside of the building through the glazing. The light transmission of 40% is ideal to limit glare while still providing a good amount of natural light to the building occupants. The glass has a neutral transmitted and reflected color, and an excellent Ug-value of 1.0 W/m2K for a good thermal insulation.

* All performance values are for a standard double-glazed unit: 6mm coated glass, 16 mm Argon filled gap, 4 mm float glass.
