Amstel Tower

Description of the project

Designed by Powerhouse Company, the 105-metre-high Amstel Tower transforms a public transportation hub into a vibrant mixed-use complex for living, working and socialising. Situated next to the Amsterdam Amstel Station, the tower comprises a 24-story residential tower, mid-rise podium for a hotel and landscaped ground level with retail and parking facilities.

Taking its inspiration from the rounded canopy of Amstel Station, the tower’s iconic silhouette enhances Amsterdam’s skyline. The tower’s canopy provides outdoor space, sun shading and noise protection for the apartments. The rhythm of the vertical elements in the glazed facade is carefully synchronised with the rhythm of the facade of the main train station hall.

Guardian SunGuard SuperNeutralTM SN 62/34 was chosen for the fully glazed façade. The glass combines exceptional solar control with a high light transmission and a low U value of 1.0. The multifunctional coating minimises the need for artificial light and offers outstanding thermal insulation, helping to keep the building’s occupants comfortable at all times. With a neutral transmitted and reflected colour, the glass is ideal for full façade glazing, providing the residents with clear, unobstructed views over the city.
