According to a study conducted by Dodge Construction Network Research & Analytics in 2021*(“Dodge Study”), which surveyed 1,207 professionals from the building sector including architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, developers and investors, over 60% of professionals have gone or intend to improve the environmental attributes for the majority of their projects.

Energy efficient construction is indeed not only beneficial to the environment, but also to the society and businesses.

According to the Dodge Study, the top three societal motivations behind this trend include:

  • Promoting health and well-being
  • Encouraging sustainable business practices
  • Increasing workers’ productivity

The top three environmental motivations include:

  • Reducing energy consumption
  • Lowering greenhouse gas emissions
  • Improving indoor air quality

In addition, for 66% of respondents, energy efficient buildings offer a substantial advantage: the possibility to lower operating costs.

Benefits of using a green building rating system

Rating systems, such as the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® green building program for the design, construction, maintenance and operations of high-performance green buildings, can influence the building sector and its best practices. The use of these systems offers a range of benefits. Here are our top 3:

  • Giving the ability to create more efficient buildings
  • Providing third-party verification that a building has substantial environmental attributes
  • Providing building owners and investors a marketing and competitive advantage by helping to increase the point-of-sale value and rental rates.

Carefully selecting the right glass for your project can help you enhance the energy efficiency of your building while earning LEED® points.
