For anyone who is interested in learning more about glass and its use
The rapid decline in bird populations worldwide is partially caused by bird-window collisions. As awareness of the issue grows, building owners and authorities demand more bird-friendly approaches.
Birds are adapted to their natural environment. However, their visual abilities make it difficult for them to identify glass as an obstacle. As a result, they can collide with glass buildings and windows: they see them as an extension of their natural environment, instead of a barrier.
Every year, up to 1 billion birds disappear (1). As a result, governments authorities have begun to implement some regulations regarding the use of glass on building facades.
This is the case in cities such as New York, where significant parts of each building’s envelope have to be constructed with bird-friendly materials.
