Sedgwick County Zoo

A Light-filled Destination That Cares for People and Animals

On its 50th anniversary, Sedgwick County Zoo welcomed visitors with a spacious new entrance – the first outward sign of a series of exciting renovations that will improve the zoo experience for guests and its animal inhabitants alike. The new complex combines ticket counters, administrative offices, a gift shop, and even a kennel for dogs to settle into as their families tour the zoo. Broad expanses of glass lend a luminous, airy feel to the entrance, and there’s more than meets the (human) eye: It’s made with glass that pairs SunGuard® SN 68 low-E coating with Guardian Bird1st™ UV. The result is a beautifully neutral and light-loving glass that features almost-invisible bands of contrast that help birds see it and avoid collision – along with excellent solar control to manage heat and energy costs. In this way, the glass achieves an inspired architectural vision and excellent performance, while supporting the values of an institution made to celebrate all species.
