Guardian’s UltraFitDS and ATS products bring new levels of energy efficiency and sound control to showcase home

ORLANDO, Fla. (FEBRUARY 7, 2007) Guardian Building Products announced today that it is the exclusive fiberglass insulation vendor for the International Builders’ Show’s Renewed American Home, located in the Lake Eola Heights Historic District in Orlando, Fla. Guardian’s ATS® and UltraFitDS® systems are installed throughout the home, providing maximum energy efficiency and sound control.

Both ATS and UltraFitDS are GREENGUARD Certified for Children and Schools – the leading industry certification for measuring indoor air quality (IAQ). IAQ is a growing concern with today’s tighter construction practices for homes and buildings, and Guardian’s insulation products are tested and certified to meet the tough GREENGUARD IAQ standards. They significantly reduce the existence of hazardous emissions and promote a healthy home environment.

“This year’s Renewed American Home demonstrates how homeowners can keep the historical character of their homes while enjoying the benefits of modern technologies and innovations,” said Gary Romes, vice president of Business Development for Guardian Building Products. “Increasingly, homeowners are renovating their homes with ‘green’ products that will make a difference in air quality, energy efficiency and sustainability. Guardian’s insulation products address these issues while meeting some of the industry’s toughest green standards. At the same time, our insulation systems conform to any wall cavity and obstruction typically found in a renovation.”

Guardian’s ATS (Air Tite System) is installed throughout the demo home and carriage house, and combines Handi-Foam closed-cell polyurethane foam with Guardian fiberglass insulation. The half inch layer of spray foam is applied inside the wall cavity prior to installation of fiberglass insulation. This combination results in an increased level of thermal performance and sound control and virtually eliminates air infiltration. A unique feature of ATS is that the system can be installed in vertical walls, overhead ceilings, cathedral ceilings, joist ends between floors or any areas that are difficult to insulate. ATS satisfies modern challenges in construction and allows architects and builders to deliver a superior, GREENGUARD-certified system.

The UltraFitDS wall system is installed on the home’s first floor and is the industry’s first residential fiberglass spray-on solution. Nearly 50 percent of all wall cavities in today’s homes contain some type of obstruction, such as wiring, pipes, electrical boxes, along with non-standard framing in width and height. In response to these changes in construction, Guardian developed UltraFitDS to conform to all shapes and sizes of wall cavities and fills in and around all wall obstructions.

Sound control and energy efficiency are two significant features of UltraFitDS. Gaps or voids in insulation can reduce sound control and reduce the R-value, resulting in heat loss. The custom monolithic installation of the UltraFitDS system provides excellent noise control properties. In addition, the increased density of fiberglass in the UltraFitDS system delivers higher R-values when compared to standard R-11, R-13 or R-19 batt insulation. UltraFitDS delivers two to three times the amount of fiberglass insulation into the wall cavity versus standard fiberglass batts.

According to the organizers of the International Builders’ Show, The Renewed American Home is completely renovated and expanded, with four bedrooms, 5 1/2 baths and a library. With the addition of the basement and other spaces, the home has 5,860 square feet of air-conditioned space and 7,175 square feet under roof including a detached two-car garage with living space overhead. The home showcases the technology available to homebuilders and homeowners that enhances the livability and eases the complexities of modern home control while preserving the integrity of the historic nature of the property.
