Designed by FaulknerBrowns Architects, the Menai Science Park (M-SParc) building in Anglesey, Wales, is a three-storey, 5000-square-meter workspace that consists of offices, laboratory, and workshop space for up to 700 people. The building has a visually striking, white continuous flowing ribbon that forms floor, wall and roof surfaces and wraps around the reflective glazed façade to the front elevation. One of the main priorities for the façade was to ensure transparency and openness, allowing occupants to enjoy the views of the surrounding area. Another key driver was low energy use, with the façade contributing significantly to the BREEAM Excellent standards of the building. Guardian SunGuard® SuperNeutral (SN) 29/18 coated solar control glass was chosen for the glazed parts of the façade. With its two layers of silver, SN 29/18 combines thermal insulation with a very high solar protection, helping to save energy consumption by reducing the need for cooling in hot seasons and heating in cold seasons.
