Achieving a natural harmony with high performance low-E glass.
Creating living spaces that work harmoniously with a region’s own surroundings and climate, instead of imposing an architectural style from elsewhere, is an approach many architects and developers are adopting.
Central to this is the design flexibility offered by high performance glass – and the selection of Guardian Glass’ SunGuard® DS Bronze T glass for Mohammad Al Habib Real Estate Co. Project: "Asala Al-Juwan" in Riyadh is a prime example.
Asala Al-Juwan is a new residential project in northern Riyadh featuring 600 high quality villas designed in the ‘Salmani’ style – named after King Salman and his vision to establish a modern yet authentic architectural style across the region.
With this approach in mind, the alluring exterior color of Guardian SunGuard® DS Bronze T was the obvious choice, as it will work in harmony with the development’s color scheme and the natural desert surroundings.
The glass also offers good levels of privacy, yet doesn’t compromise the views from the interior – as it has superior color trueness compared to other similar products. While the high UV protection will also help to shield homeowners and to prevent the contents of their home from fading.
Guardian SunGuard® DS Bronze T also has good thermal insulation and solar control properties to help prevent overheating, excessive air-conditioning and interior coolness from being lost.
This has not only helped improve the energy efficiency but also the running costs of the project. Double glazed Guardian SunGuard® DS Bronze T results in an approximate 16% reduction in energy consumption compared to triple glazed standard glass. Which, with the development’s efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning, creates an estimated saving of 16,681,200 Saudi Riyal*.
*During the first year, compared with Guardian Clear glass.
The Guardian Glass team worked closely with the developer from day one to make the most out of the overall budget. From showing them the added benefits of Guardian’s performance glass installed at the Sabic Home of Innovation (the region’s first LEED® Platinum building), to supplying a wide range of glass samples and detailed performance calculations covering aspects like glass thickness and acoustic and thermal properties.
Guardian’s final recommendation of using the advanced double glazing of Guardian SunGuard® DS Bronze T meant that the developer could move away from more light triple glazing. And this approach has also contributed valuable LEED® points to the project – with the help of our certified LEED Green Associates.
