Description of the project

Designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, Gioia 22 is a 120-meter-tall landmark office building in Milan, Italy. Gioia 22 uses onsite renewable energy sources including 6,000 square meters of photovoltaic panels that provide a high proportion of the energy required for heating and cooling.

The building’s strikingly angular shape looks like the sharply defined peaks of the nearby Alps. The highly reflective glazed façade uses three coated solar control glass products from Guardian

SunGuard SuperNeutral (SN) 62/34 HT is a high selectivity glass that combines very high natural light transmission, while contributing to energy performance through solar control and thermal insulation. The glass offers a neutral transmitted and reflected color and is ideal for full façade glazing.

SunGuard High Performance (HP) Silver 43/31 allows natural daylight into the building but helps minimize solar energy gain. It helps reduce glare from direct sunlight but provides excellent solar heat reflection, helping to keep the building cool and to reduce demands on air conditioning. The glass has a uniform reflection and color.

SunGuard High Durable (HD) Silver 20 was chosen for the building-Integrated Photovoltaics. This highly durable solar control glass is based on highly resistant materials that enable the glass to be used monolithically.
