GUARDIAN INDUSTRIES ANNOUNCES 21ST FLOAT GLASS PLANT IN CZESTOCHOWA, POLAND

Auburn Hills, MI (December 21, 2000) -- Guardian Industries Corp. today announced its intent to build a new float glass manufacturing facility and fabrication line in Czestochowa, Poland. Representing an investment of more than 100 million Euros, the new plant will create 250 jobs. Float glass is made by floating melted glass onto a bed of molten tin which produces superior quality flat glass for the construction and automotive industries. The new facility will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will produce up to 650 tons of float glass per day.

In making the announcement, Guardian's Glass Group President Russell J. Ebeid said, "The strong growth in float glass markets in the Polish and Central-Eastern European countries, coupled with growing customer demand for Guardian fabricated glass, made Poland a high priority for Guardian's expansion plans. The new facility will help Guardian customers to grow faster which, in turn, will ensure Guardian's own success."

"We also appreciate the economic development leadership shown by officials of the Ministries of the Economy, Finance and the Treasury as well as by municipal officials of Czestochowa," said James Moore, Managing Director of Guardian Europe. "Receiving support from these local officials convinced us that Czestochowa was the right place for this facility."

The seventh float line in Europe, the Czestochowa facility represents a continuation of Guardian's commitment to the Central and Eastern European markets. Guardian's Orosháza, Hungary, plant was constructed in 1988 and its Thalheim facility, in eastern Germany, in 1995. Since building its first float line in Luxembourg in 1981, Guardian has significantly expanded its float glass capacity and fabrication capabilities. In addition to sheets of glass, the company produces mirrors, laminated glass, tempered glass, reflective and low-emissivity coated glass. These products are available to the residential and commercial construction industries as well as European car makers. Currently, Guardian operates six float lines in Europe: two in Luxembourg, two in Spain, one in Hungary and one in Germany.

Guardian Industries Corp. is a leading worldwide manufacturer of float glass and fabricated glass products for the commercial and residential construction industries, based in Auburn Hills, Michigan. One of the Top 100 Global Automotive Suppliers, Guardian Automotive provides complete exterior systems to the global automotive industry.
